Akashat - the City of Dreams

Home - Theme

Akashat is a fantastical setting, built from the dreams and the wills and the nightmares of its inhabitants. Whether Akashat is real or simply a shared hallucination is open to speculation by the scholars of the City, but its inhabitants, from all species, places and times, often have more interesting things to do than endlessly debate.

But what is the City of Dreams? How is it structured? Who rules it? How do the inhabitants arrive in this strange land?

Akashat is made up of many of the same components as other cities. There is a ruling body of government, political process, class of inhabitants, religion and economical issues. Akashat has a colorful history and a variety of information and locations to explore. The information and links below capture some of these elements of the city.

Basic Theme Information

Between the Euphrates and the Tigris river, in this portion of the world known as the cradle of humanity, there is a legend rumored at night in whispered voices. It tells the tale of the ever elusive City of Akashat, nestled in its lost Vale between high mountains. The city moves, floating from one end of the desert to the other, never twice at the same place.

Dreams are the only way to access the city, if the dreams are intense enough, that is. It is said that one finds oneself in the city, in the form assumed in one's dream. It is said that some have dreamed so often, so intensely, that they are now trapped in Akashat. No one has any idea what happens, if anything, to their waking selves back in their waking world.

The dreamers are irresistibly drawn to the lost city, as their darkest or most glorious dreams materialize. The dreamers trapped in Akashat soon organized a system of government and rules to hold this new society together. They divided themselves in three classes, the Nobles, who ruled, the Citizen, who usually run businesses, and the slaves, used and abused, cared for and pampered by the other two classes.

The city is ultimately ruled governed by a pair of god-like rulers - Oberon and Titania. The regal couple seldom seem to be bothered by the day to day affairs of their city, but who unquestionably reign supreme always.

The routine governance is conducted by an elected triumvirate consisting of the Emir, the Margrave, and the Arcanus.

The Emir is responsible for the protection of the city, the routine administration of city business, and the oversight of law and order as well as punishment of crime for the city.

The Margrave is responsible for providing fresh and valuable merchandise to satiate the needs of the ever hungry city through raids and trading conducted through the portal into the random dream space of others.

The Arcanus is in charge of the Tower of Sorcery which is a powerful entity in its own right. This leaves the Arcanus in control of all the magic within the city aside from that of the regal couple.

Every day, new dreamers arrive to Akashat, under unlimited different forms, as there is no limit to the imagination of a dream. Many come to explore their lurid dreams, others to face their nightmares, most arrive to live their sexuality to the fullest. All are welcome to Akashat, to the land of freedom, the freedom to be oneself.

Theme of arrivals: People arrive two ways generally - either their dreams were so intense that the Dreamweaver of Akashat picked up the thread of their dreams and wove them into the city or they were captured/enticed by the Margrave's dream raiders and kidnapped from their own dreams and brought here through the portal. If they re-appear after having been snatched from Akashat - then most likely they dreamed so strongly the Dreamweaver pick up the thread of their dream once more and they find themselves back in Akashat.

Theme of departures: No one can consciously choose to leave, or ever be assured that any attempt to 'send them' home is successful in any way.
Any IC attempts to send someone back should be played with complete uncertainty as to the success in any way, and with the understanding that the character would be ICly assuming they can never return. People's dreams grow weak, or perhaps at times the Dreamweaver may simply drop the thread of their dream, and they are suddenly woven out as they were woven into the collective dream to begin with.
